- A game of Ghetto Golf – mini golf with a twist with graffiti covered walls in the heart of Digbeth
- Day out at Cannon Hill Park – a great place to head to in the Spring and Summer to enjoy a breath of fresh air, sit on a bench and watch the world go by, enjoy an ice cream, play mini golf, head out on the boating lake or enjoy a show at the MAC
- Retail therapy at Merry Hill – if you fancy a change from Birmingham City Centre then Merry Hill is a great alternative with numerous high street shops on offer
- Grab a bite to eat at Digbeth Dining Club – award winning street food with numerous venders which takes places every Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday
- Go along to Birmingham Pride – pride takes places every year on the second bank holiday in May and is held in Birmingham’s gay village. You can also head to Hurst Street throughout the year.
- Enjoy a burrito at Bodega Catina – If South American food is your thing this will be right up your street. It does get busy so be sure to book!
- A cinema trip with a difference at Everyman cinema – If you like the idea of slumping back in a reclining sofa and having your food and drink delivered to your table whilst enjoying the latest blockbuster, then Everyman is the place to be
- Enjoy a cocktail at Be at One – with two locations – New Street and Brindley Place – you can choose to relax and sip away at cocktails and enjoy your favourite tunes. They also have a happy hour every day
- Feel festive at the Frankfurt Christmas market – the German market is one of the biggest in the country and you can sample traditional German food and drink and buy some Christmas gifts
- Get back to History and visit the Back to Backs – learn about 19th century living and walk amongst the courtyards of working people’s houses. Be aware that you should pre-book
- Jump on a canal boat and see the sites – bask in the summer sun and take a relaxed narrowboat tour along Birmingham’s canals
- Head to the Library of Birmingham for views over the city – as well as being an impressive building with a vast array of books and other resources, the library offers great views over the city from its rooftop garden terrace.
- Take a walk up the Clent Hills – on a nice sunny day enjoy a walk up the Clent Hills and take in the views over the Midlands
- Experience life in 1830s Black Country – under 10 miles from Newman is the Black Country Living Museum where you can enjoy a longboat ride, eat some fish and chips, go to the bakery and sweet shop, enjoy live demonstrations and head into the underground mines and much more.
- Enjoy some food and a drink at The Button Factory, Jewellery Quarter – with breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner menus you can visit at any time of the day or enjoy a cocktail on the evening at their rooftop bar.
- Enjoy some Indian style street food with locally brewed beer – The Indian Brewery at Snow Hill provides delicious traditional Indian food and you can wash it down with their own brewed beer or one of their lassi or chai creations.
Where to do the Food Shop
Surrounding Newman there are a number of supermarkets and smaller convenience stores either a short walk or drive away.
One Stop is just round the corner from University if you wanted to pop out for a few essentials whilst ASDA is just a short 5-minute drive – for the larger shop.
